5 food products that i love and why
I love food and I love eating. I also love being healthy and that’s one of many reasons why I eat plant-based. However, a few things led me to reading about sodium last week and I realized how much of it was actually in a lot of products we have in the pantry and in the fridge. One that shocked me was a truffle-infused tomato sauce that I’ve been loving. Sodium: 820mg (36% DV). That seemed way too high knowing it’s not the only thing you’ll eat that day. So, this past week I’ve been experimenting with eating a lower amount of sodium and here are 5 store-bought products that I’ve been enjoying:
Food For Life Ezekiel 4:9 bread and tortillas.
The Snack Yard Organic Sweet Potato Sticks
Miyoko's Organic Unsalted Cultured Vegan Butter
These are all foods I enjoy because they all meet a different need in my culinary world and they don’t make me feel like crap.
Ideally, you don’t want that sodium to go through the roof and go way over the amount of calories the food contains so following the 1:1 ratio guideline helps with that (milligrams to calories per serving). Here is a great article from Plantstrong that goes into more detail.
I definitely still enjoy some salt, especially the kind you use at home and measure out but I think it’s good to be aware of everything that goes into our bodies; especially when too much of it might not be that good for us.
